Conference excursions

Warsaw is a city which has a lot to offer and this is why we are organizing four different thematic sightseeing tours. Please note that all the tours will take place at the same time, which is why it is possible to choose only one of them. The tours are free of charge for the participants of the SolMech 2018 conference and they are each accompanied by local, English speaking guides. The excursions will take place on Wednesday (August 29, 2018) 4:00-7:00 PM.

T1: Chopin's Warsaw

Fryderyk Chopin spent almost half of his life living in Warsaw. Walking the streets of Warsaw today, you will find many locations that were frequented by the famous composer two hundred years ago. During this tour you will not only learn interesting facts about his life in the city, but also see some outstanding areas of Warsaw. This tour includes a visit to the Fryderyk Chopin Museum.

T2: Jewish Heritage

Before the Second World War, Warsaw had one of the greatest numbers of Jewish inhabitants in the world. This tour leads through many different sights related to a long, but also tragic, history of Jewish community in Warsaw (Umschlagplatz, Jewish Cemetery, Old Ghetto). This walking tour also includes a visit to the award-winning POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews.

T3: Panorama of Warsaw

If you want to see as many of the highlights of Warsaw as possible, this tour is made for you. Our bus will take you through some of the most beautiful and famous touristic sights. From the Old Town and modern downtown, to the banks of the river Vistula, the famous rooftop gardens of the University of Warsaw Library, and the beautiful Łazienki park for a pleasant short walk.

T4: Warsaw by bike

This is a comprehensive tour of the city's main sights by comfortable city bike. Enjoy a relaxed ride through the famous Royal Route and the Old Town, explore the city beach on the banks of the river Vistula and beautiful parks, and admire the Palace of Culture and Science and the National Stadium. You will be accompanied by a local guide, who will offer you some insight and advice about bike rides in Warsaw.
